Ann Curry
Ann Curry is a photojournalist writer, journalist, and photographer who has reported on areas of war for over forty-five years. Her research focuses on the human suffering of disasters and human tragedy. Curry's father was a naval officer in the U.S. Navy and her mother was Japanese. They met during the time their father was in Japan following World War II. Her father was a member of the military and her family moved around frequently. Curry finished highschool in Ashland Oregon. She graduated with a journalism degree at The University of Oregon in 1978. As a child, she was exposed to diverse cultures. She and her husband travelled to numerous places like San Diego Alameda Oregon Virginia. In the end, she was able to graduate from Ashland High School. In Medford the following year, she began her broadcasting career with KTVL Channel 10 as an intern. At the age 22, she became the first reporter to be female at KTVL. Later, she moved into the role of anchor and reporter for KGW which was an NBC affiliate located in Portland, Oregan. The following year, she relocated to Los Angeles as a reporter for the KCBS-TV. She won the award of two Emmy Awards during the six years with the station.
